With reference to previous correspondence respecting the acting appointment of Assistant Surveyor General of Hongkong recently held by Mr. R. V. Buckle R.E., I transmit herewith the copy of a letter on the subject from that officer, and I have to inform you that, having regard to the peculiar circumstances of the case, I have authorized the Crown Agents to issue to Mr. Buckle two months' full pay at the rate of £700 per annum.
